Project Scientist in Experimental High Energy Nuclear Physics
The Nuclear Science Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is seeking outstanding candidates with recent experience in large-scale data-intensive computing projects in nuclear physics, high energy physics, or similar areas, to provide computing support for the NSD Relativistic Nuclear Collisions (RNC) Program participation in the STAR experiment at RHIC (BNL) and the ALICE experiment at the LHC (CERN). This will be a term appointment at the level of Project Scientist, made initially for two years and with the possibility of extension.
The RNC Program has major roles in STAR and ALICE, including responsibility for computing for both experiments at the PDSF facility at NERSC, the National Energy Research Supercomputing Center at LBNL. PDSF is a farm of commodity processors providing a general computing environment, GRID Resources, and mass data storage via HPSS. STAR is currently the largest user of PDSF, and ALICE usage will be of similar magnitude in the near future.
Applicants with a Ph.D. in nuclear physics, high energy physics, or related fields, are requested to submit a curriculum vitae, publication list, and the names of at least three references to Dr. J. Porter, MS 70R0319, 1 Cyclotron Rd., Berkeley, CA 94720-8169 or via email to RJPorter@lbl.gov. The position will be open until filled.
LBNL is an equal opportunity employer committed to the development of a diverse workforce.
