I’ve noted in the past that our Monte Carlo seems to underestimate the gluon contribution to charged pion production, especially at high p_{T}. Here’s a more direct comparison to NLO calculations using Kretzer and DSS fragmentation functions (thanks for the code, Joe!). It’s pretty clear that Pythia agrees much better with Kretzer than with DSS.
