Bunch Fitting: Spin Pattern Correlations, Part 2

SUMMARY SLIDES FOR 9/22/14 FMS MEETING

This is a continuation of the previous blog entry: https://drupal.star.bnl.gov/STAR/blog/dilks/bunch-fitting-spin-pattern-correlations

Here I am again focusing on Run13 data and looking for how the spin pattern correlations observed in certain raw ZDC singles asymmetries (viz. double spin asymmetry, ε3) depend on the selection of bXings.

I am running tests by filtering out certain sets of bXings. Again, I am focusing on the bunch fitting of ZDC singles scaler bit combos with respect to VPD coincidences.

n.b. my bXings count ranges from 0-119 (abort gaps are thus at 31-39 and 111-119)

-----[ SPIN PATTERN COLORING ]------------------------------------------------------------
.
.
Some tests use a 4-colour legend, where if a spin pattern has color C, it's partner, defined by the spin pattern for exchanging the blue and yellow bunch patterns, also has color C:

Other tests use an 8-color legend, where all 8 spin patterns have a unique color

-----[ OUTLINE OF TESTS ]---------------------------------

The ordering of these tests is chronological

  • TEST 1: OMIT 8 BXINGS AFTER ABORTS AND 8 BXINGS AFTER 69 & 70
  • TEST 2: OMIT 8 BXINGS BEFORE ABORTS AND 8 BXINGS BEFORE 69 & 70
  • TEST 3: OMIT 2 BXINGS AFTER ABORTS AND 2 BXINGS AFTER 69 & 70
  • TEST 4: OMIT 2 BXINGS AFTER ABORTS
  • TEST 5: OMIT 1 BXING AFTER ABORTS
  • TEST 6: OMIT 3 BXINGS AFTER ABORTS
  • TEST 7: OMIT 4 BXINGS AFTER ABORTS
  • TEST 8: OMIT 5 BXINGS AFTER ABORTS
  • TEST 9: OMIT 6 BXINGS AFTER ABORTS
  • TEST 10: OMIT 7 BXINGS AFTER ABORTS
  • TEST 11: OMIT 8 BXINGS AFTER ABORTS
  • TEST 12: OMIT 9 BXINGS AFTER ABORTS

-----[ TEST 1: OMIT 8 BXINGS AFTER ABORTS AND 8 BXINGS AFTER 69 & 70 ]---------------------------------
.
.
The set of bXings considered in the bunch fit for this test is: [8,30] ∪ [48,68] ∪ [79,110]

  • The spin pattern correlation effect is decreased when we omit the first 8 bXings coming out of each abort gap as well as 8 bXings after bXings 69&70 (which were not filled during the first ~230 runs)

-----[ TEST 2: OMIT 8 BXINGS BEFORE ABORTS AND 8 BXINGS BEFORE 69 & 70 ]---------------------------------
.
.
The set of bXings considered in the bunch fit for this test is: [0,22] ∪ [40,60] ∪ [71,102]

  • The spin pattern correlation effect appears to be amplified when we omit the last 8 bXings going into each abort gap as well as 8 bXings before bXings 69&70 (which were not filled during the first ~230 runs)

-----[ TEST 3: OMIT 2 BXINGS AFTER ABORTS AND 2 BXINGS AFTER 69 & 70 ]---------------------------------
.
.
The spin pattern correlations for the DSA are slightly reduced; however, new spin pattern correlations are introduced in the SSAs

  • Using the 8-colour scheme here
  • The blue SSA is slightly higher if the blue beam spin pattern starts with "-" than if the blue beam spin pattern starts with "+"
  • The yellow SSA is slightly higher if the yellow beam spin pattern starts with "-" than if the yellow beam spin pattern starts with "+"

-----[ TEST 4: OMIT 2 BXINGS AFTER ABORTS ]---------------------------------
.
.
This is a repeat of test 3, but without omitting 2 bXings after 69 & 70

  • Results very similar to test 3
  • First 200 runs look slightly less correlated in the SSAs for this test

.
-----[ TEST 5: OMIT 1 BXING AFTER ABORTS ]---------------------------------
.
.
This is a repeat of test 4, but omitting only 1 bXing after each abort gap

  • SSAs are not correlated with spin pattern and have less variation than test 4, where 2 bXings after each abort gap were omitted
  • DSA has clear spin pattern correlation, which is worse than in test 4

.
-----[ TEST 6: OMIT 3 BXINGS AFTER ABORTS ]---------------------------------
.
.
This is a repeat of test 4, but omitting 3 bXings after each abort gap

  • SSAs are not correlated with spin pattern
  • DSA does not show any correlation with spin pattern and also shows the least amount of variation yet

ZDC WEST:

.
.
.
-----[ TEST 7: OMIT 4 BXINGS AFTER ABORTS ]---------------------------------
.
.
This is a repeat of test 4, but omitting 4 bXings after each abort gap

  • No evidence of spin pattern correlation
  • Variation in SSAs and DSA are even smaller than test 6, where 3 bXings after aborts were omitted

ZDC WEST:

.
.
-----[ TEST 8: OMIT 5 BXINGS AFTER ABORTS ]---------------------------------
.
.
This is a repeat of test 4, but omitting 5 bXings after each abort gap

  • No evidence of spin pattern correlation
  • Variation in SSAs and DSA are a bit bigger than test 7, where 4 bXings after aborts were omitted
  • First ~200 runs region where bXings 69 & 70 were unfilled is starting to be enhanced

-----[ TEST 9: OMIT 6 BXINGS AFTER ABORTS ]---------------------------------
.
.
This is a repeat of test 4, but omitting 6 bXings after each abort gap

  • No evidence of spin pattern correlation
  • Variation in SSAs and DSA are a bit bigger than test 8, where 5 bXings after aborts were omitted
  • First ~200 runs region where bXings 69 & 70 were unfilled is starting to be enhanced

-----[ TEST 10: OMIT 7 BXINGS AFTER ABORTS ]---------------------------------
.
.
This is a repeat of test 4, but omitting 7 bXings after each abort gap

  • Evidence of spin pattern correlation in DSA
  • Variation in SSAs and DSA are a bit bigger than test 9, where 6 bXings after aborts were omitted

-----[ TEST 11: OMIT 8 BXINGS AFTER ABORTS ]---------------------------------
.

-----[ TEST 12: OMIT 9 BXINGS AFTER ABORTS ]---------------------------------
.
.
This is a repeat of test 4, but omitting 9 bXings after each abort gap

  • Evidence of spin pattern correlation in DSA, but a bit less than test 11
