2011 Fragmentation Function: Fill-by-fill Raw Results
Here, I present a brief statistical study of the raw pion multiplicities shown on a previous blog. I restrict myself to the z-dependence. The multiplicities for π+ (blue) and π- (red) are shown as a function of fill number. The fill-dependence is fit with a constant for which the mean, χ2, and χ2 probability are shown. Bins for 0.1 < z < 1 are shown, though the final result will restrict to 0.1 < z < 0.8. The goal is to get a sense of the fill-dependence, prior to corrections and systematics.
Conclusion
In general there is not much of a fill-dependence. This is to be expected. A few of the fits return rather low probabilities, suggesting the uncertainties are probably slightly underestimated. This is not so suprising, given that efficiencies have not been corrected and systematics are not included in the uncertainties. The fact that it is as well-behaved as it is seems encouraging.
