QM17: STAR Highlights Handout

The experimental collaborations have been asked to submit a single-sheet handout (double-side is allowed) in which they summarize their parallel talks.

Attached to this page are a few examples. One is the ALICE QM14 version that the QM17 organizers prefer and the other two are the version that STAR submitted for QM14 as well as the two pages from my preview presentation at QM15 (note that in the original version all the talk links were URLs to the associated Indico agenda entries).

The organizers emphasize that key plots should rather be shown in the Preview presentation and that the handout will focus on typical agenda-like items, such as title, time, and location. Space permitting, we can also include poster information.

We will use this page to collect the relevant information and prepare the requested document.

Subject: Highlights-handout for QM17

To the experimental Collaborations presenting talks at Quark Matter 2017:

(Please forward this email to the appropriate committees of your Collaboration.)

We encourage the experimental collaborations that are presenting preview talks on the first day of the conference to submit a single-sheet handout (two sides maximum) summarizing their parallel talks. This handout will be printed and included in the conference package that the participants will receive upon arrival at the conference.

We find the format of the attached file, prepared by ALICE for QM14, to be particularly helpful, including the information available via the link given at the bottom of the sheet  (http://goo.gl/npUYgf, giving a list of all ALICE talks ordered by day and session and listing speakers and titles) that was printed on the back side of the sheet.

In our view, such a paper handout is useful and convenient as quick reference, without having to consult a laptop or phone. It can be marked up during the preview talks, to note parallel talks of special interest. While the posted slides of the preview talks provide complementary information (in particular key plots), they may not list precise information on the title, time and location of the parallel talks.

Posters may also be listed, space permitting, and noting that there is a lower bound to readable font size. We request that each handout fit on the two sides of a single letter-sized sheet of paper.

To ensure timely printing the handouts should be submitted to the conference chairs in electronic form (pdf) by December 31, 2016.

Kind regards,

Uli

(for the QM17 conference chairs)
