Updated the offline database table Calibrations/fst/fstPedNoise with pedestals from 24211042-25063008.
02/28/24
- We were able to postpone the scaffolding removal until the afternoon.
- Tonko addressed the temperature readout issue by starting up a server process on daqman. It was killed when STAR lost power.
- I went in around 8:30 am to test if we could see the temperatures on the FST.
- All lights in the FST area were turned off and the high voltage was ramped to operational values with no trips.
- Waited ~45 minutes for the FST to warm up. Temperature readouts were in the range of 25C-28C for PPB/Sensor temperatures. This matches our expectations.
- I walked Bill through the FST cooling system refill procedure just in case we need him to fill the NOVEC for any reason while we are away. He has refilled it in the past.
- 1 last visual inspection of the FST cooling and cable connections at the TPC face. All looks good.
- Temperature readout issue resolved and scaffolding will be removed starting at 1pm.
- Scaffolding was fully removed at 3pm.
- Returned at 4pm to re-test the FST.
- Turned off all lights in STAR hall, ramped up HV, waited ~20 minutes. Took pedestal, which matches to what we expect from previous pedestals. Temperatures look good. Pedestal comparison file: STAR/system/files/userfiles/6551/fst_24024013_25059009.pdf
- One last visual inspection, everything looks good.
- Cooling system remains on. FST crates remain switched on. but they are turned off with slow control.

- Entered STAR Hall around 10am, visually inspected all cooling line and cable connections on the FST. All connections appear solid.
- A few of the return/supply valves were not fully open. Very slightly “closed”. I fully opened these valves.
- There are some spare grey cables that were moved on the TPC face and are now dangling. These two cables will need to be re-affixed to a secure point on the TPC face.
- Cooling system reservoir was filled from 23.8% to 90.9% and switched from pump 1 to pump 2.
- All IOCs for FST and its cooling system were turned off at the end of Run 23. These were turned on.
- After the cooling system was turned on, the sniffer was used around the return and supply lines. No NOVEC leaks were found.
- Cooling system GUI is not reporting proper reservoir temperature, humidity, and pressure. This will be investigated. They are also reported at 0.0% on the online monitor.
- Left around 2pm
- Returned around 2:45pm
- Turned off all lights in FST area and turned on FST crates. Ramped up with shift crew GUI
- Noticed that a couple channels were reporting nan values: Mpod 1 u0, Mpod 2 u1
- Some trips were present: Mpod 1 u2, Mpod 2 u204
- These might be old trips that were never cleared.
- Restart IOCs to clear nans and clear trips.
- Everything ramps up with no trips and no nans.
- Took several pedestals.
- Noise and pedestals match the pedestal file from the January 2023 testing after the FST was reinstalled. This makes sense since the lighting conditions were nearly identical and the magnet pole tip was still open. Pedestal comparison file: STAR/system/files/userfiles/6551/fst_24024013_25058005.pdf
- Cannot read out temperature from the FST using caget on sc5.
- Ramp down FST.
- Reaffixed spare gray cables to the TPC face.
- Reached out to Tonko and others about missing temperature information from EPICS.
- Reached out to Christian and Wayne about missing reservoir IOC information.
Poorly placed extra gray cables on FST face
