Run14 Au+Au and Run12 pp: differential jet shape measurement at 200 GeV - Paper Page

Title:
Differential jet shape measurement in \sNN = 200 GeV Au+Au collisions in STAR

Abstract:
The existence of the quark gluon plasma (QGP) has been the focus of many high energy physics experiments for years.  There are many useful probes of a QGP.  An example is a pair of very energetic quarks and gluons produced in a heavy-ion collision.  This pair of partons, which can fragment into a collimated spray of hadrons, or `jets', will propagate through the dense medium and get slowed down or completely absorbed.  The resulting jets, which in vacuum are well understood within the framework of perturbative QCD, are attenuated by medium interactions, a process known as jet quenching.  This behavior can be studied by examining properties of the jet such as its substructure.  The differential jet shape observable, reveals the radial profile of transverse momentum distribution inside the jet.  By measuring the modifications of the jet shape, properties of the QGP at different length scales can be studied.

In this paper, the differential jet shape for full (charged + neutral) jets in \sNN = 200 GeV Au+Au collisions with the STAR experiment at RHIC will be discussed.  As the first measurement of its kind at RHIC energies, this work will measure jets at low-\pt (10-40 GeV/c), complementary to the LHC and demonstrate whether there is a modification and a broadening of the jet profile at RHIC energies.  To explore how the substructure of jets is modified in Au+Au relative to pp collisions, the dependence on centrality and jet transverse momentum (\ptJet) will be investigated..

Still developing..
