Invited plenary talk on RHIC, RHIC physics, and the STAR energy scan

This talk was originally supposed to be only about the STAR energy scan, but then the organizers asked me to introduce/motivate the field of high energy heavy ion collisions, and gave me a 1-hour slot.

Actually, in my opinion, the WHOLE POINT of the heavy ion program is to get to a point where we take a condensed matter physics approach to partonic matter, so this extended task is kind of natural.

The talk is still a work in progress, and probably too long.  Feedback is welcome.

The pptx document will have some animations (particularly at the beginning) that will be lost in the .pdf version.

The pdf version was a touch over the 50 MB limit allowed by drupal, so you have to download two files.  The filenames should make it obvious.

=========== Update 30 November =====

A second version has been posted 30 November.  It is updated with a few figures from Alex and Jinhui and Yuhui and a couple of slides from Yadav.

I have actually 1:45 to give this talk.
