Workplan for installing the EPD - 25 (& 26?) January 2019

There is a new policy at STAR, which says that a member of STAR Technical and Support Group (STSG) must be present whenever anybody is using a lift.  This comes as quite the surprise and greatly complicates the work for academics coming to work on STAR.  After all, many of us have to schedule our STAR work around our "real jobs" that keep us at our home institutions Monday-Friday.  Of course, there aren't a whole lot of university groups putting hardware into STAR.... but the EPD team is one of them!

Anyway, to keep track of us, Bill Christie and Rahul and company asked for a detailed work plan, which is always a good idea anyway.

Thursday evening - Lehigh crew led by Justin.  Joey, Xiaoyu and Mike arrive around 9:30 pm
  1. Clear a staging area on the South side of the IR.  Put up some tables and wood blocks, lights, etc.  This is where the sextants will be, after we take them down off the wall and before we mount them in STAR
  2. Bring all the fiber bundles from Wlodek's lab to the IR - there are a lot of boxes!
  3. Collect all tools and electronics (including FEEs!) that we will need for Friday's work.
  4. Discussion / review of the procedure, especially for the West side sextant mounting.
Friday and probably Saturday morning - everybody.  But on the lifts will be Robert, Justin, Joey, Prashanth, Mike, and Xiaoyu
  • We start promptly at 8:00.  The magnet and barriers must be down at that time.
  • See the schedule below for details.  (Click here for pdf version.)  When I generated this schedule, I had thought that everything MUST be done on Friday.  Since then, I have learned that Saturday may also be an option.  We'll make a decision based on progress.  Bill Struble has kindly agreed to stay with us on Friday and Saturday, as needed.  I do not want to push ourselves to exhaustion/lack of focus and increase the chance of mistakes.

* Plan revised 25 Jan 2019, to account for removing strain relief on selected West side sextants
