A compilation (which will need to be updated for run 20) can be found at: drupal.star.bnl.gov/STAR/system/files/ShiftStat.xls
My write-up for the shift dues can be found at: drupal.star.bnl.gov/STAR/comp/onl/shift-accounting/shift-dues-and-special-requests-run-20
My instructions can be found at:
Run | 16 | 17 | 18 | 19 | 20 |
# Possible Shifters | 268 | 284 | 284 | 259 | 273 |
# of Shift Dues | 339 | 334 | 255 | 375 | 469 |
# Non-Trainee Slots | 302 | 280 | 216 | 334 | 392 |
The total number of non-trainee shifts can be calculated as such:
Week | SL | DO | SC | PC | Offline |
1 - 2 | 3 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
3 - 4 | 3 | 6 | 3 | 1 | 0 |
5 - (N-2) | 3 | 6 | 3 | 1 | 1 |
(N-1) - N | 3 | 6 | 3 | 1 | 1 |
For run 20, shifts started on 11/26 (sort of) and then based on this schedule, we would have had 23 weeks for the middle range, which gives us:
2 x 6 + 2 x 13 + 23 x 14 + 2 x 14 = 388
However, the way this is calculated in practice is via a scaling method in the shift statistics which calculates the total shifts required by N_authors x scale factor, with a factor to determine the number of training shifts.
Normally there would only be shifts for the middle weeks, which would give a max of 138. For this run, we wanted ~45% training shifts, so that's 62 training shifts, for a total of 450.
There were 273 possible shifters, a scale factor of 1.7 would give 464 shifts, and 1.6 would give 437 shifts. I chose 1.7 as I thought it would be better to have more of an obligation than less.
We can look at how this has gone for the last few years:
Figure 1: On the left is the total # of shifters, the # of required shift and the # of shifts due by run. On the right is the total possible number of trainee shifts, the trainee shifts that were due and the training shifts taken. The horizontal lines show the average.
These were done using the macro: drupal.star.bnl.gov/STAR/system/files/shiftplots.txt
