Please if you have comments circulate to list.It will be discussed at the March Collaboration meeting.

From the council chair:

"Enclosed please find our first business matter for this year – an application from Prof. Ahmed Hamed, who is now leading AUC group, to formally join STAR. He requests to have his group (at least initially) affiliated through Texas A&M, and Saskia had confirmed that she endorses this request on behalf of her group. Below I also quote expression of support for this application from the STAR management side.

I plan to schedule the discussion of this application at our upcoming meeting in March; meanwhile, please kindly let me know if you have any questions on the application details;  I will communicate these to Ahmed."

From STAR mgt
On behalf of the STAR management team we are forwarding Prof. Ahmed Hamed's application for his new group at the American University of Cairo (AUC) to join STAR. Since Prof. Hamed's group does not yet have two members with PhDs he is requesting to join STAR with Texas A&M serving as their council representative. However, he would like to list AUC as his group's institute.

Prof. Hamed is a long time member of the STAR collaboration, working most recently with Prof. Mioduszewski from Texas A&M. He started  a new position at AUC this Fall. The management team unanimously supports Prof. Hamed's application, the details of which are attached to this email, and we ask that the Council consider his request at their earliest convenience.

I have cc'd Prof. Hamed in this Email in case you have any further questions for him about his application. Zhangbu and I are also happy to discuss this application.

Thanks

On 2/6 the following information was send out by the council chair documents attached to the blog

Enclosed please find application materials from Neha Shah and Md. Nasim together with the Spokesperson’s notes with some background on groups situation  (which was also discussed at our last meeting in July 2018), and management support for the applications.

I will add these add these application to the agenda on our upcoming March meeting.

Hi Olga,

This and the following email are the official requests from IIT Patna (Neha Shah) and IISER (Md. Nasim ) to join STAR. Initially, since they each have only 1 PhD in their group  they are requesting to be able to list their Institutes but maintain their current Council Reps. They are both actively seeking Post Docs and plan to have Post Docs as members of their groups going forward. Both would therefore like to request that once a Post Doc has joined them that their groups become Full members of STAR with voting rights.

Both applications have the full support of STAR management.

As you know the applications of all the new Indian groups were postponed in the summer while they sought the support of the ALICE-STAR Indian task force. Neha, Nasim, and Chitrasen have since presented their cases to this task force. It is our understanding that they received positive verbal feedback but no official vote and approval has been made yet. However everyone has agreed to proceed with Neha and Nasim's applications (I haven't heard anything yet from Chitrasen), since they have internal funding to support their travel initially, and are already making contributions to STAR.

Thanks

 Helen

Please find the updated proposal attached here. I added a note stating:

At this moment, we are seeking approval to list IIT Patna on the author list and keep the Council representative same as current. Once a Post Doc or second PhD student joins the group, we would like IIT Patna to become a full member of the STAR Collaboration with the Council voting rights with N. Shah as representative.

Let me know if you have more suggestions.

Sincerely,

Neha

Dear Helen,

To answer your first question regarding postdoc appointment. Our institute post-doc positions are expected to be advertised in few months (last advertisement was in September, 2018). My plan is to take one postdoc from that. In addition, we have national post-doc fellowship program, for which two students contacted me. I am aware, I need two PhDs in my group to become a full member of STAR. I have one student (Sameer Aslam) allotted to me this semester and one more student (Subhashmita Kar, she is doing her course work this semester) will join the group in July.

For this year, I am using the seed money available from my institute to cover my shifts (June 13-27). As Subhasish Sir mentioned, my application to join and get funding from STAR-ALICE India group is pending. I hope Task force will take decision on my application soon and next year we will have funds to cover our shifts.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Neha

item 3

Enclosed please find  STAR membership application from IISER Tirupati group. To remind you, we had previewed this application at the last meeting, but ad been asked o postpone the vote until internal approvals are in place. Chitrasen is now asking us to proceed with review and voting, so I will be adding this application to our March meeting agenda.

As always, if you have any questions on the application ahead of the meeting, I will be happy to pass them along to Chitrasen.

Best regards,

Olga

Dear All,

Today I came to know from Dr. Subhasis Chattopadhyay (Spokesperson of Indian Heavy-Ion Physics group) that our proposal for joining the Indian Heavy-Ion Physics group has been discussed in the Indian Task Force Meeting and pending for the Spokesperson's recommendation letter before the final approval. I have updated my proposal with this information and attached the same with this email for your consideration.

Thank you.

With best regards,
