Much of the day contemplating and scrounging for a rack move in the DAQ Room which will:
provide a new rack for various S&C infrastructure servers and the HLT/L4 machines (with the latter going on the DAQ local network)
provide a network KVM in the new rack to aid in troubleshooting, both locally and from remote.
Alexei Lebedev (with a little help from me) laid in the network cables to connect videopc (South Platform) to sirius (Control Room) on a small private network that also includes a couple of obsolete PCs used with the TPC laser system. This removes those two Windows XP machines from the campus network. (There is no reason we couldn't provide a machine with a later version of Windows to use in the Control Room, and then put it on the campus network (dual-homed), but Alexei is satisfied with it as it and given other pressing matters, won't come back to this any time soon.)
Picked up a couple of new computers from ITD (still needing full configuration):
Mac for Dmitry Smirnov
Also arrived today were the second order of DIMM modules for the OLP (ordered through TigerDirect), and *again* they sent RAM with the wrong specs (this time not even from the same manufacturer as listed for the item that was ordered). So have asked Rachel to arrange a return again and and found another vendor (directron.com, never heard of them) selling RAM manufactured by someone else I've never heard of (Actica), but the specs look right, so we'll see.
Gave up after about 25 minutes of waiting/trying to get SeeVogh to run on my laptop. Seems to be a wide-scale problem.
Looks like there is a problem with the "sde" drive in the sclrscratch machine...
