| Abstract | : | The potential benefits of increasing the number of SVT layers from three to four are exploted with full GEANT simulations and back-of-the-envelope calculations. The addition of a fourth layer is found to produce only moderate improvements in tracking efficiency and resolution. The benefits of a fourth layer tot the STAR physics program are discussed.
