Abstract:The Endcup part of the EMC (EEMC) plays a very important role in the pp-collisions enlarging the detector acceptance for processes relevant to the proton spin studies. It is also very useful to the quark-gluon plasma searches. The EEMC is a proposed contribution from JINR to STAR. Before finalizing its design and starting a construction it is necessary to study the main components. The small prototype (SP) of the EEMC is constructed and tested in the beam at Serpukhov for these purposess. It was shown experimentally that light output of the scintillator, light collection and sensitivity of the PM PHEU-84 used in the model under consideration are high enough to obtain the sampling resolution of the EEMC ~ 20%/sqrt(E).
