Abstract:The results of a search for negative aspects of the impact of the SVT material on the TPC tracking environment are reported. The geometry of the SVT and its support structures are described and the radiation length of the SVT material is explained. Particle generation by the SVT and other materials in STAR are evaluated. The effect of the SVT material on the lower limit of the STAR transverse momentum acceptance is investigated. We conclude that the negative impact of the SVT is generally within reasonable bounds, although there is a need for further simulations at high rapidities.
