| Abstract | : | The peripheral collisions program for STAR at RHIC is described. We discuss some of the physics that can be studied by observing coherent nuclear interactions, whereby the nuclei miss each other, but interact by longer ranged electromagnetic and hadronic interactions. The experimental feasibility of making these measurements with STAR is described, and we discuss the expected backgrounds along with the analysis techniques and triggering algorithms necessary to reject these backgrounds while accepting the interesting signals. |
