Pb Glass Shower Shape (Geant4)

Sept 13  Photon-Pi0 separation from Run 9 Data

Conclusion: Observing roughly similar numbers of pi0 and isolated single gamma clusters at ~80 GeV in the South FMS small cells, we can select events (a selection fraction of about 2/3) for which the separation between pi0 and single photon is very clear.

For these events spin asymmetries should be measurable without bias from selection.

For the remaining 1/3 of the events, some separation is possible with mixing that should be constrained by the 2/3 of data that is clearly separated.

The detail in the ppt or pdf files below discuss:

  • Study of Run 9 Single Photon Shower Shape with photons from Eta decays

  • Single cluster Pi0’s are identified in energy range 50-60 GeV

  • Study more general single cluster events in energy range (50-60) GeV

  • Study  single cluster events in energy range (70-80) GeV

  • There is no reason to doubt that these methods can be extended to above 100 GeV with modest degradation in separation.
