EPD Dark Current at the end of Run 23
Executive Summary
We compared the dark current at the end of Run 23 to the end of Run 22. It looks like it is "less", but I think that was because the EPD electronics were off for a while. It was always less at the start of a run than at the end of the previous run. The increase in dark current for the pp 510 running was incredible compared to any of the BES AuAu runs. I suspect this was closer to a BES AuAu run than a pp 510 and so there really wasn't much damage and thus no real increase.
Details
We realized that we wanted to look at the dark current at the end of the run, to see how much damage was done and to have something to check on next year's running.
The last time I checked it was at: drupal.star.bnl.gov/STAR/blog/rjreed/Last-Mapping-EPD-2023-DSMs-etc
We had only installed the west side at that point, I think I didn't end up checking after the east side was installed. Still, we can compare from now to the end of the last run. One thing I have noticed is that the dark current decreases a bit from the end of the run to the beginning of the next - probably this has something to do with the temperature or something like this. It's been pretty consistent. We did have the EPD electronics off for a bit as well.
In any case, the file is created by clicking on the "save as" button on the EPD GUI.
End of last run: drupal.star.bnl.gov/STAR/system/files/EPD2022_3_18_10_33_0.txt
End of this run: drupal.star.bnl.gov/STAR/system/files/EPD2023_7_7_16_43.txt
The file used to set the bias voltages is: drupal.star.bnl.gov/STAR/system/files/EPD_TUFFmap_forLightChecking.txt
The macro to compare two of these files can be found at: drupal.star.bnl.gov/STAR/system/files/CompareDark_0.txt
Note - The file needs to end with a carriage return, I think that you get a segfault if you don't end the last line. Also, if the files don't exist that you're trying to compare, it's just going to die. Ogre-like programming, sorry....
The Comparisons can be seen at:
Figure 1: Comparison of run 22 to run 23, west side. (Yes the labels are correct.)
Figure 2: Comparison of run 22 to run 23, east side. (Yes the labels are correct.)
