1) BUR 24-25 discussion
  • BUR-21 has two scenarios - a) 20 cryo weeks each, and b) 28 cryo weeks each for Run-23 and 25
  • Assumed proportional loss in the case of 'a' for both MB and triggered data taking
  • Would that scenario be good for BUR 24-25 projections?
  • Impact on MB, HP and UPC physics? SLIDES, BUR-21
2)  ROOT6 migration
  • PWG helpers?
  • Which dataset(s) need to be produced for testing? Run16 Au+Au 200 GeV? Run 20 200 GeV? For cold QCD?
3) Luminosity calibration uncertainties
  • Can't rely on C-AD alone to get the uncertainties, some one from STAR has to work with the C-AD
  • Either one of the PAs from the analysis or can have a designated person or group for the dataset - like the centrality calibrations and QA
  • During data taking for p+p someone from the cold QCD group monitors the luminosity and polarization (?) If so, can that information be documented and transferred to the luminosity calibration effort?
4) BES-II workshop, Run QA, AOB

Friday, 24 March 2023
https://bnl.zoomgov.com/j/1619294511?pwd=TkRhZzFjOWZSQnpvUVdGUGFVMmlHdz09, at 13:00 (GMT), duration : 00:00
1) Trigger requirements for Run23
  • What detector or combination of detectors, i.e. VPD, ZDC, BBC, EPD, should be used to define the MB trigger?
  • Is a vertex z cut needed for the MB trigger? If so, what is the range (30, 70, 100, or something else)?
  • What are the desired thresholds for BHT triggers? What is the setup for the dimuon trigger? Do they need a vertex z cut? If so, what values?
Minutes:
- Conveners will bring this up for discussion at the PWG meetings next week. All PWGs are expected to present a list of required triggers at the trigger boarding meeting on April 3rd.

2) How to run BSMD in 2023-25
  • Essentially no spare parts to fix any failed components
  • Do we want to turn it on for low-lumi AuAu, pp, pAu?
Minutes:
- HP

PWG will discuss this topic, and inform the trigger board.

3) Centrality calibration for BES-II COL

- Need one more volunteer for 11.5 GeV centrality calibration

4) Data on distribution disk
  • Run15 pp, pAu data sets, P16id MuDst: still needed
Minutes:
- ColdQCD PWG will follow up on this

STAR PWGC meeting

2023-03-31 09:00

Friday, 31 March 2023
https://bnl.zoomgov.com/j/1619294511?pwd=TkRhZzFjOWZSQnpvUVdGUGFVMmlHdz09, at 13:00 (GMT), duration : 00:00
1) Run23 trigger discussion
  • FCV (SLIDES)
    • ZDC MB trigger with rates close to 10K, with moderate swing (every 10K change leads to 2% systematics).
      • No VPD/BBC/EPD coincidence.
      • No online Vz requirement using VPD.
      • Crossing angle of 0.2-1 mrad to restrict Vz (too large crossing angle will affect ZDC triggering efficiency).
    • Need 20B MB events with |Vz|<30 for CME search.
      • ZDCSMD should be present in such events for CME search.
    • A special trigger to detect γ+Au events utilizing East-West asymmetric activity (details proposed).
      • FTS must be present in the triggered γ+Au events.
  • LFSUPC
    • ZDCMB
      • Need |vz| < 30 cm for dielectron analysis. No need to cut online if TPC vz distribution is similar to 2019 (83% of events within |vz| < 30 cm over all MB events)
    • UPC triggers (SLIDES)
  • HP (SLIDES)
    • dimuon+zdc_coin+vpd100
    • BHT1+zdc_coin+vpd10
    • BHT2+zdc_coin+vpd100
    • BHT3+L2gamma
    • monitor triggers: vpd-zdc-novtx, vpd-zdc-10
Minutes
- Nihar and Prithwish will present on Monday at trigger board meeting
- If one imposes a TofMult > 1 requirement on ZDCMB trigger, it might reject phi mesons in UPC. Need further discussion
- Need to follow up on whether ZDCMB has any inefficiency for ultra-central collisions. One can probably run a monitor trigger to check it with data.

2) BSMD running strategy
  • HP
    • Highest priority: run it during high-lumi Au+Au
    • Can opt to turn off BSMD during low-lumi Au+Au
    • Assess BSMD condition in Run23 to decide whether to turn it on in Run24 for pp

NOTES

2) February collaboration meeting (Meeting page)
  • Speakers for PWG reports
  • Tuesday: joint parallel session on BES-II analyses (LFSUPC/CF/FCV)
  • Wednesday: special plenary session between 4:30-5:45 pm LBNL time
  • Fill in the parallel session agenda on Drupal
  • Management-convener meeting: Wednesday 6-8 am LBNL time
    • Inputs for discussions?
Conclusions: all BES-II analyses are expected to be presented during the joint session on Tuesday. LFSUPC/CF/FCV conveners will collect the contributions and work on the agenda.

3) data production
  • DAQ -> PicoDst: 9.2 GeV done; 11.5 GeV to be started soon
4) How to estimate the tracking efficiency uncertainties?
  • Dedicated task force is finalizing their work, but it could still take some time.
  • Before that, we should try to be consistent across the collaboration. We suggest to include both sources in the results:
    • Uncertainty on the absolute efficiency: 5% (relative) without any pT dependence (not relevant for relative yield measurements, such as flow)
    • Uncertainty on the embedding performance: vary the cuts (DCA, NHitsFit, ...) simultaneously in data and embedding and check the impact on the results. Then one takes RMS of the variation as the uncertainty, which could be pT dependent.
Conclusions:
- There might be some overlap in the two sources resulting in some overestimation, but this is probably the best we can do now unless/until new information becomes available
- For particles reconstructed from N daughters, we think the uncertainty should be N*5%, not sqrt{N}*5%
- To get the RMS as the uncertainty, it might be better to try different variations on the track quality cuts
- Conveners will discuss this within PWGs and collect feedback

(3) QA of BES-I MuDst->PicoDst conversion
  • st_physics stream: /star/data14/GRID/NFS_FileList/AuAu62_production_physics_P10ik_SL23a.txt
  • Yu Zhang: QA looks good (SLIDES)
  • Any other feedbacks?
Minutes:
- The S&C team will continue the conversion for BES-I datasets given that the first look at QA did not reveal any issues.
- PWGs will follow up on more QA studies.

(4) Triggers for Run23
  • Eleanor: we need information about any monitor triggers as well as your primary physics triggers. For triggers that require z-vertex cuts we need to know how wide those cuts should be.
  • Compile a list of triggers needed from your PWG, and ask your PWG representatives to present at trigger board meeting
    • LFSUPC: Daniel Brandenburg, Kong Tu
    • HP: Isaac Mooney, Zhenyu Ye
    • FCV/CF: Jiangyong Jia, Mike Lisa, Hanna Zbroszczyk
Minutes:
- PWGs will discuss this in the weekly meetings, and present to the trigger board.
- The current plan is to level ZDC rate at ~ 10 kHz for MB program, and ~ 100 kHz for the HP program.

(5) Data production and embedding
  • O+O
    • dE/dx calibration is done. Need code change. Currently being reviewed
    • BTOF, VPD calibration done for one polarity. Working on the other one now.
    • Will use startless mode for BTOF start time for OO dataset: better resolution, higher efficiency (SLIDES)
  • Embedding: T0 issue in FXT data (SLIDES)
  • List of embedding requests for QM (FULL LIST)
Minutes:
- Whether or not we can produce all the FXT
embeddings before QM abstract submission depends on how quickly the simulation setup can be finalized. We will continue to monitor it.

(6) QM deadlines
  • April 3rd: deadline for express of interests to PWG via email. Please submit a title and a brief abstract on what you propose to present.
  • April 3rd – 17th: merging discussion within/across PWGs, and PAs submit merged abstracts to Drupal after converging
  • April 17th – 24th: PWG comments and approval
  • April 24th – May 1st: discussion and approval within star-talks. All the abstracts will be submitted centrally to the conference by PAC.
Minutes:
- As mentioned a few times, in order to promise an analysis in the abstract, one needs to have, if needed, i) centrality definition; ii) embedding production (at least vetted).

- Currently, we have centrality definitions ready for Run19 14.6 GeV, 19.6 GeV, 200 GeV, and FXT Run18 3.0 GeV, Run19 3.2 GeV, 3.9 GeV, Run20 3.9 GeV. If people want to show results for other energies, they are welcome to join the efforts of centrality calibration.
- People should continue informing PWGs, if not done yet, about their embedding needs for QM.
