Abstract:A method is presented for exact reconstruction, as well as construction, of trajectories of relativistic particles in the complex of the STAR central time projection chamber coupled with the STAR external time projection chamber, XTPC, for an idealized uniform magnetic field. The analysis is geometric and exact. This has also provided a means of testing the accuracy of a given mode of operating GEANT, and it is found that an increased-accuracy mode for GEANT is necessary for some of this work. Exact momentum and pseudorapidity of the particle can be deduced from the location and orientation, e.g., twist, of the track in the XTPC for this model B field. Two methods of distinguishing primary particles from secondaries are analyzed: (1) By taking cuts. (2) By comparing the reconstructed B-field length with the one from the primary vertex
