Abstract:A simple model has been constructed in Mathcad to study the hit resolving capability of a VTX style micro-TPC. This model has been used to study a micro-TPC suitable for using as a vertex detector in STAR. There are parameters in the model for electron diffusion, drift velocity, TPC geometry, amplifier shaping time, read out anode length and pitch. Hit resolving power is studied as a function of these parameters to help in optimizing the design. Example applications for other TPC designs are also presented.
