Abstract | : | We report on the development of a new software package developed in C++, and fully integrated in the STAR Analysis Framework (STAF) for the purpose of the geometry calibration (internal alignment) of the STAR Silicon Vertex Tracker (SVT). The software package, dubbed SAL (SVT Alignment), has been tested with simulated Au+AU collisions generated with the HIJING model and processed with STAR GEANT (GSTAR). The alignment is based on straight tracks measured in a null magnet field. The alignment is achieved through the minimization of a functional which includes individual track residuals as well as the size of the primary collision vertex reconstructed with all measured tracks. Simulations performed on the basis of ten Au+Au events indicate it is possible to achieve a position reconstruction of less than 15 microns.
