===============================================================================

STAR management's charge to the CME focus group:

The Chiral Magnetic Effects (CME) has been a very hot topic at STAR and of the HI field, as reflected in the STAR BUR Run18 request and PAC’s recommendations. This focus group is formed to facilitate ongoing discussions involving several analyses teams and analysis techniques, as well as the PAC’s recommendation of performing blind analyses with Isobar data. The tasks of the group, as suggested by the management,include but not limited to the following:
1. how to perform blind analysis for the CME studies with Isobar data
2. understand the connection and difference among different CME observables
3. work together on the next CME paper in small systems and beyond

A reminder of the steps that the paper need to follow as requested by management:

1) Everyone make their analysis codes available by checking them into CVS. This step is not usually required until GPC formation, but since much of the discussion requires detailed understanding of the analysis steps I think code check in is best done early. This does not mean code changes cannot continue, but the latest code should be available for anyone in STAR to check out, look at and run.
QA for Isobar: $CVSROOT/offline/paper/BlindIsobars
Papers: $CVSROOT/offline/CMECMW

2) All relevant discussions, plots, cross checks be pulled together into a centralized location for each paper. Ideally this would be in the analysis note that is required for GPC formation, but pulling them together via itemized links on a web page will also be OK to proceed to Convener review. The discussions surrounding these results are now scattered over many email exchanges and ppt links, it is hard now for anyone to follow and I believ leads to part of the frustration in exchanges - this is especially true now we have 2 new conveners of BulkCorr

3) The  paper proposals (maybe for the second time) will be presented to the CME Focus group, with notification to the BulkCorr. Once it is clear what is proposed to go into the papers and no major issues remain about the DATA points themselves the papers will proceed to Convener review.

4) The various PAs work with the Focus group to clearly establish the relationships between the various correlators - especially those already published - as well as between different phase spaces for the same correlator. Before a paper proceeds to GPC we must understand why there is apparently better sensitivity to some correlators than others.This may involve seeking further guidance from theory.

5) If there are significant changes to the data or agreed interpretation(s) of the results between PWGC review and this stage the papers will return to PWGC review.

6) Once the relationships are understood, the conclusions agreed upon and the comments from the latest PWGC review addressed a final presentation will be made to BulkCorr for approval for the papers to proceed to GPC. I will ask that the GPCs stay in close communication so that the messages of the various papers don't diverge during the review process

ISOBAR LONG PAPER DRAFT

https://www.overleaf.com/3231712568gyrbsxfvjxqs

===============================================================================
Instruction for Check in/out Isobar QA Code (thanks Prithwish):
Go to RCF, somewhere in your working area and go through the following steps:
Step-1:
%cvs co offline/paper/BlindIsobars/XX
XX=BNL/Fudan/Lehigh/Purdue/StonyBrook/UCLA/WayneState/
This creates a directory "offline/paper/BlindIsobars/XX"

Step-2:
Copy your code "mycode.C" into the above directory + do the following ONCE

%cvs add offline/paper/BlindIsobars/XX/mycode.C
%cvs commit -m "First version of my super-dupe blind analysis code" offline/paper/BlindIsobars/XX/mycode.C

Later, changes to "mycode.C" can be done by using the "cvs commit..." The "cvs add..." has to be done ONLY ONCE (the first time you add).

Step-3 (TO GET PERMISSION) :
When you do the following step:
%cvs commit -m "First version of my super-dupe blind analysis code" offline/paper/BlindIsobars/XX/mycode.C

you might get a cvs.lock ERROR message like this :

cvs commit: failed to create lock directory for
`/afs/rhic.bnl.gov/star/packages/repository/offline/paper/BlindIsobars/XX'
(/afs/rhic.bnl.gov/star/packages/repository/offline/paper/BlindIsobars/BNL/#cvs.lock):
Permission denied
cvs commit: lock failed - giving up
cvs [commit aborted]: lock failed - giving up

Step-4:
Use the following command to get the permission

% kinit
ENTER YOUR RCF PASSWORD:

% aklog
